This is a final reminder that The Seniors Council Falls Prevention Program is permanently shutting down services this Thursday, November 30th at 4pm. For Medical Guardian customers who want to continue with uninterrupted service, please call Assured Independence at 1-800-591-3109 and tell the associate that you are part of the Companion for Life transition. Those who choose not continue service, please leave a message and make arraignments for the immediate return of our emergency equipment. If not returned before 4pm this Thursday, you will be immediately charged for lost equipment. Thank you for over 30 years of loyal patronage.
Overview
The goal of the Companion for Life Project is to provide a community-based personal emergency response system (PERS) at the lowest feasible cost to any at-risk individual who desires swift emergency response in the event of a medical incident such as a hard fall or experiencing debilitating pain.
This service provides continuous emotional support to at-risk older adults or disabled individuals living in their homes by improving their safety and a sense of well-being. It also provides family and friends with peace of mind.

Emergency Response Systems
An emergency response system connects an individual who has fallen, or finds themselves incapacitated, to emergency services, or a family member, or a friend with a simple press of a button. Through the use of their personal help button, which can be worn as a bracelet or as an adjustable necklace, the person will be able to communicate their needs directly to the Monitoring Center via an intercom.
- All personal help buttons are designed to be waterproof. This is crucial for the shower and bathtub where falls happen most often.
- No long-term contracts; month-to-month lease.
- No service cancellation fees; cancellation finalized at the return of equipment.
- Maintenance package included: any repairs or service needed for the equipment through normal use is covered in the monthly fee.
- No landline phone needed. Wireless communicators are available.
- Fall Detection available on all systems. If you fall and cannot reach your help button, you will automatically be placed in contact with the Monitoring Center. NOTE: Fall Detection for bracelet unavailable.
- Hands-on in-home installation courtesy of our friendly and expert home installers.
- Sliding scale is available for low income individuals. Please contact office to check eligibility.

Program Goals
Originating as a pilot program of the Seniors Council in 1989, the Companion For Life Project rejoined the Seniors Council in 2015 after 25 years of independent operation to insure the best possible delivery of services to our local elders.
The goal of the Companion for Life Program is to provide a locally based medical alert service at the lowest feasible cost to all individuals who desire continued independence at home due to failing health or other factors.
